Korean BBQ with Instant Noodles

BBQnoodles

I was a college student not too long ago and it’s true, I spent my four years living off cup ‘o noodles and ramen when dorm food got tiresome and I was too lazy or broke to eat out.  Nowadays, I have a little more cashflow, but hell I’m still lazy, so I don’t suppose my dependence on the packaged noodles will ever go away.  It’s dirt cheap and make a great filler to any meal of the day.

Here is my reinvention of the college night cram session but with an upgrade: Korean BBQ with instant noodles.  I serve it dry with home-marinated Korean BBQ short ribs.  A delectable blend of flavor with practically no effort.   And we do it the lazy way.  Noodles microwaved in a bowl of water, strained, and stirred with seasoning packets.  Kalbi ribs with jar marinade from the Korean market and cooked in the broiler (to fake the taste of a real grill, which I don’t have).

1 pound of short ribs ($2.99/lb), 2 bags of noodles bags ($0.45 ea), Serves 2.

Hello cheapAsses of the world.  Today I went to the supermarket and purchased two weeks worth of groceries for under $20 and thought, I really should blog about this.   I realized that a lifestyle of frugality mixed with creativity can be shared and appreciated.  This is the start of it all.

I never thought I could afford a vacation to Hawaii, but if there is a time to put a check mark next to Oahu on your bucket list, it is NOW!  Hawaii is a must, even for travelers on a budget.  The weather is just perfect and because it is off season, you won’t have to deal with the crazy crowds.  The daily newspaper (free from my hotel room at boutique Aqua Waikiki Wave) detailed the hotel’s industry 60% decline in occupancy in the past month, so anyone can find extremely good rates.   Most flights traveling from LAX to HNL from now until october have reached record lows of $235, and if you book a package for 6 nights through orbitz, you can punch in a couple code for $200 off the total cost.

An Oahu trip for two:

United Airfare from LAX to HNL: $470 ($235/person)

AQUA Waikiki Wave 3 stars: $626 ($104/night for 6 nights)

Customized Package savings: -$139

Orbitz Coupon Code [entertain200]: -$200

Total Trip Price: $757 ($378.50/person)
